Xtreme excitement!

Friends of Caudwell Xtreme Everest may feel that the apparent lack of changes on this website means that not much is happening. Happily that is not the case. If anything, it is completely the opposite, and I am finding it difficult to find the time to update you.

So, what has been happening in the world of CXE?

You may have noticed from the science section that many members of the team have been speaking at events and conferences all over the world. Whilst some review articles have already been published, articles containing analysed data from the 2007 trip are awaiting publication in a number of scientific journals. More than 30 articles are planned to facilitate dissemination of all the results from the 2007 data.

Four of our team have got married since returning from Nepal, and there are two more weddings in the pipeline. Three Caudwell Xtreme Everest babies have arrived, and another is on the way! The attached photo is of Paul Gunning's son Harry. Mark Wilson has had a daughter, Katharine. Mac's daughter Sophie was mentioned in my previous blog.

Several members of the Summit team (Mike, Sundeep, Chris and Dan, along with David Howard) were challenged to run up Snowdon last weekend to raise money for the Intensive Care Foundation, and Denny Levett and I joined them as support crew. The 26 mile course started at the Welsh coast and included more than 5000 feet of climbing. We hope that this will become an annual event.

I have just launched the 2009 Caudwell Xtreme Everest research treks, and they are already being filled pretty quickly. The research questions to be tackled have arisen from early results from the 2007 trips.

Dan Martin and myself will be traveling to St Louis in early October to present at the Science Festival there.

In November, trekkers and core team members from the 2007 treks will be meeting in Sheffield to discuss results to date, and celebrate Caudwell Xtreme Everest's achievements so far. We are confident this will be a yearly event as more and more results become available.

Hi Kay

Congrats to the XE Snowdon runners - might give it a go next year! And best wishes to all the newlyweds and newlymums/dads on the team. Looking forward to Sheffield, seeing everyone and finding out if you've made sense of our Trek diaries yet :-) See you in November
