Hey Hey we?re the monkeys?

On our days off we are preparing for our EBC trek at the Kathmandu National Stadium. Well truth be known we dragged ourselves out of our beds at 6:30am for our Tai Chi class ready to be challenged both physically and mentally. We headed towards the National Stadium ? dodging the many scooters and cars (there are no pavements) and were then accosted by a group of monkeys!! Thought we were going for a relaxing Tai Chi class! The head monkey was so determined and made a beeline for Polly (she reckons they sense fear), which may be true but we think they also fancied some of her grape juice. Anyway, head monkey grabbed Polly?s grape juice, ran off with it with his followers in tow. Polly was left slightly traumatised but Sundra took her mind off it with his fantastic Tai Chi class. The group feel privileged to be training among some of the countries most elite athletes on the track and with Sundra?s club. We hope to be entertaining some of them during the 2012 Olympics.

A busy Friday 13th in the lab with the help of Ralf Henker (Managing Director of Cortex), we were glad to get to the bar to welcome in the Nepali New Year with Trek E ? you?ll be pleased to know that life is no different in 2064 (we still have snow capped mountains)!

On Monday evening we were honoured with the company of Jim Milledge. He entertained both the Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal and the CXE Team with fabulous stories, slides & science from the 1961 Silver Hut Expedition. What an amazing man.

We FINALLY have a full team here in Kathmandu, with the arrival of Blanche our expert ?Chat & Chew? host and Jan & Debbie our very own psychologists (things are taking their toll).

This morning we welcomed John Caudwell and Trek F. We now await the late arrival of the American Science Museum group.

Tomorrow Trek A, our first EBC conquerors, arrive back to the comfort of the Summit Hotel before they fly home on Saturday.

Other News:

Christina Dougall (our CPX Queen) is currently on a marathon trip home for her Medical School interview. We wish her the very best of luck!

That?s all folks

To all I met in Kathmandu.
A big thank you to everyone, especially Lynne for looking after me and Jan, Merilyn, Paula, Blanche, Debbie, Polly and Graham for their company and warm welcome on my precipitous return. A special thank you to Sue and Stan who went out of their way to keep me company. Also to Roger and Beccy who saw me at my lowest point and cheered me with their gift. Thanks also to trekkers Jane L, Jamie, Anke, Ernie, Laura & John (leader) for being around & making me smile.
Everyone's kindness lifted my spirits and almost made it worth being ill so early in the trek.......almost!
