Visitors Galore!

The Kathmandu team would like to welcome Jo Simpson to their laboratory and congratulate her on her recent achievement of becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians.

Following the completion of Xtreme Team testing the group headed into the rice fields on mountain bikes. The girls in the group proved particularly adept at this, skillfully negotiating the exciting off piste route. For the boys it was a different story; they stretched the cycle company?s elastoplast supply to its limit, fortunately escaping serious injury(!).

On Saturday morning after five alarm calls, we knew the Xtreme team must be off. It was of course with heavy hearts and full beer glasses that we bade them farewell (the night before!). We will miss them greatly here, but can?t wait to join them at Base Camp in the not so distant future. We wish them the very best of luck.

Mike Stroud (Polar explorer), Jim Milledge (1960 Silver Hut expedition) and our very own optometrists; Derek and Graham bounced into the Summit Hotel fresh faced and bright eyed from their 12+ hour flight. Barely sitting down long enough to take a breath, the new arrivals whisked the Kathmandu team off to Baba Mahal Revisited to sample some of the finest Nepalese cuisine.

Embarrassingly the Young Everest Study team beat us to breakfast on Monday. The nine children embraced the rigors of testing with enormous enthusiasm; so much so that several other children in the hotel wanted a go! For William (10), ?son of John Ogden?, it was a rather a special birthday. After testing Patrick (13) entertained us with his new guitar, a present from Dad (Prof Mythen), signed by the whole CXE team, and then we all enjoyed the pool.

Merilyn and David Coates join the team here today in time to prepare for the imminent arrival of the first group of trekkers?.

Thanks

Paula

Hi to you all and many thanks for my lovey poster of the view from Kalla Pattar that you gave to Uncle Monty to give to me for my birthday. I had the most amazing time in Nepal and the only Yetti that I saw was on my t-shirt! We also loved the pool! from William

I'm so proud of you all. So brave! Well done Charlotte, Patrick, Alice and Tom - Josephine can't wait to see you all when you get back; I think she thinks you're somewhere that's a cross between the Gruffalo's forest and Father Christmas's icy homestead. Can't wait to hear all your tales too - and your guitar playing Pat! xx
Love and prayers, Carmel
