Namaste from the Caudwell Corner

We have had an extremely busy week in Kathmandu with lots of comings and goings ? we now have the pleasure of Merrilyn & Polly?s (soon to be a Dr) company and shed a tear for the departure of Jo Simpson & David Coates.
We started the week with a visit to the CIWEC clinic. Dr Pandey, the medical director kindly showed us round the impressive department. It was well equipped and quite frankly luxurious compared to some of our hospitals in the UK. We are looking forward to shadowing some clinics.
The Kathmandu team made the most of their days off prior to the arrival of Trek Group A. We conquered the exceedingly steep hills of the Shiva Puri National Park with our cheery guide Kumar. After 35 kms of muscle burning pedalling, we took on the local traffic, making rush hour in London appear somewhat tame!
The first of the Caudwell volunteers arrived safely on Sunday evening. On a tight schedule they were up at the crack of dawn on Monday for testing. The day went very smoothly (touch wood). However it wasn?t all work and no play, with the trekkers making the most of the pool and some of them even managed to brush up on their bartering skills whilst doing a spot of shopping in Thamel.
After a long day in the laboratory and a presentation of the brain science we relaxed with the trekkers over a game of Poker! Paula had beginners? luck and cleaned out all (no money exchanged hands and all clothes were kept on).
After a late night our dedicated team leader stayed in bed whilst Merrilyn & Dan awoke at 3:45 to wave them off before crawling back to bed. We would like to wish them bon voyage and the very best of luck on their journey to Everest Base Camp.

By: Neil Dougall | When: 13th Apr 2007 12:25 | Hi Christina, Glad to hear that you are getting the right balance between work and play! Your biking trips sound a lot more strenous than our tours through the Purbecks (where we will be this weekend).
Love from Neil & Claudia |

Hope you are having a good time...Nick..how are your boots!? |
By: ruth mitchell | When: 10th Apr 2007 22:17 | Lovely to hear you trekkers have got so far and had so much fun. When I hear about the cold weather, especially at Everest Base camp, I feel ever so slightly guilty that we enjoyed a great day climbing Tryfan on Easter Saturday - fantastic warm weather - in t-shirts on the top. Even Chris managed to scramble over the boulders.
Take care and enjoy yourselves.
LOL Ruth and family. |
