Namaste

Yaks on the move
2 messages :: read>

Namaste, dear children. I have just got what you will probably call tea. For me that means melted glacier and snow water, and a basket full of hay. Whilst I am having this lovely snack, you will soon be going for lunch. This is because of the time difference between Nepal and London; Nepal is five and a half hours ahead. We left Pheriche at 8am in the morning, when you will surely have still been sound asleep.

We went up to Lobuje with all the luggage ( altitude 4910m). Every time we walk further up the hill it gets colder and more windy. People have to wear more clothes to keep warm, and we grow our hair longer.

It is spring in Nepal. This season lasts from March to May. When you are lower down the valley it is warm, but there is dust everywhere. Sometimes, I see trekkers going blue, because the oxygen levels are lower. We always have to laugh about this, because we do not have that problem. I prefer summer, from June to August. This is the time that the monsoon passes over Nepal. Everywhere, the grass and trees turn green. For us, it is like being in a sweet shop; we do not know what to eat first. It is also like a holiday, as there are few trekkers because of the heavy rain.

The most popular trekking season runs from September to November, called Autumn. Winter runs from December to February. The nights can be so cold then! We stay in a stable, which is on the ground floor of the houses. On the first floor lives the family. Higher up the mountain we are forced tp stay outside more. Our ?living room? is surrounded by small stone walls. Blocks of stone are piled upon each other like a puzzle, and is solid without the use of cement! The houses of the Nepalese are made the same way. Only the door is made of wood. I think this is good, as people make fires in the houses. Sometimes, they use our dried dung as fuel. So long as the people give us hay to eat, we will produce dung which they can dry and burn to keep warm.
