It's War!
33 messages :: read>
The day began peacefully enough on the BBC terrace (back of the mess tent where we sit in the morning sun and discuss new programs such as ?Men and Marmite? and ?Celebrity Hangings?) until the war monger Kay Mitchell incited Patrick Doyle to fire a pre-emptive snowball at an unsuspecting Sherpa. The conflict quickly escalated into an all out salvo of snowballs by both sides. Breakfast was quickly abandoned and at least one bowl of porridge and two teacups were early casualties in what was termed collateral damage by the Americans.
The Evil Sherpa Empire held the high ground and a plan was formulated to rush en-masse in a shock and awe tactic to regain the advantage; plans for post occupation of the territory were ignored. For a brief period in the onslaught lead by Mac we held the Puja hill but the Evil Sherpa Empire quickly regrouped and overwhelmed us with superior force, tactics and skill. We were soundly beaten and surrendered very quickly. A tentative truce was held during the rest of the morning whilst the Sherpas prepared our lunch
It should be noted that Graham Hoyland from the BBC switched sides four times during the almost two hour long conflict. As with all traitors his retribution was served cold and in his hat which was then placed back on his head. It?s snowing again.
We will bide our time until tomorrow!!!!!

Congratulations to you and the team. a fantastic achievement and to do this at the same time as doing valuable research is outstanding. Good that you all got down in one piece. Looking forward to the TV programmes, and hopefully the personal slides of the day to day side.
The Blackstaff Press will want a book, so get writing.......
Hurry back to the family,
Best Wishes,

By: Conor Boyd | When: 29th May 2007 04:43 | Congratulations Roger & team! We've lost touch since good times in QUBMC, but it's great to hear about all your successes. Sounds like your mountain research abilities have improved since you over-boiled your thermometer on your first trip to Chamonix. ;-) If you ever make it out to New Zealand, drop me a line in Christchurch, it would be great to catch up in person. |

By: Ian Orr | When: 24th May 2007 23:22 | Well done Roger. Always felt you had the determination and grit to make it all the way to the top. What about the blood gas on the summit? I did think that was rather ambitious.

Trust Kay to start it all - she's not called Chaos for nothing! What fun; wish I was still there to be able to take part - did any trekkers get involved? Thanks for all the blogs, they really keep us informed and entertained. Hope you are able to recharge your batteries when you descend for a while before the final push.
