Summit Hotel

We decided to take it easy today after yesterday?s physical 50km mountain-bike trek. After a hearty breakfast of bacon, sausage, fried potatoes and eggs, we took a taxi ride across town to a large supermarket. I was in search of some malt vinegar and spices for my ?high-altitude? pickling experiments at Base Camp, while the other guys stocked up on chocolate for our impending trek to the foot of Everest.
We came back from the town and took a wander up the road to see the sights. On our return, as we rounded a bend close to the hotel, we suddenly saw the most stunning sunset cascading onto the mountain peaks. We rushed up onto a roof-top terrace at the hotel and took a few photos. They don?t justify the beauty of the scenery, so we stood there and admired the view for 10 minutes or so. While up there, I took a photo of the Summit Hotel, softly lit by gentle lighting around the patio area and lounge. It really has the most comfortable surroundings of any hotel I have stayed in. The staff are warm, friendly and courteous; the food superb and the atmosphere relaxing. I will definitely come back again one day.
Matt has just wandered into my hotel room as I type this, to say that all the remaining equipment has left Doha. I?ve heard this a few times before, so I will wait and see if it actually arrives here. Post a comment on this article... Open message form

Hope the logistics set up is all going ok. I've been reading the blogs, they are very interesting.
Thanks for the t-shirt, I can now proudly say that I have been up Mt Everest!
All the best for the rest of the expedition,

Even though there is a serious side to this expedition I am sure you will have a wonderful time together and I wish you every success with the project. Best of luck and I shall be keeping a close eye on your progress. Hopefully you will have some webcam images that we can all view. Best regards, Pat in Ireland. | |
