Jovan sex appeal?

Visiting the Tamil district was the order of the day and it was time for me to see the real side of Kathmandu. Paul Richards had worked at the CIWEC clinic in Kathmandu for 3 months back in 1999, so knew the area well. He showed us all his favourite haunts ? Shona?s Outdoor Shop, the best ?gear? shop in Kathmandu; Pilgrim?s Book Shop, which is an absolute Mecca for mountaineers and Hot Breads caf?.

Both Paul and I are over 40, so when it comes to the ?ladies? we need all the help we can muster! As with anything in Kathmandu, there is always someone who can help, so while perusing the various wines and spirits that were on offer in a small store, we were steered towards some rather ?fetching? after-shave. There on the shelves were displayed bottles of ?Denim?, ?Old Spice? and ?Brute?. How could any Nepalese woman resist us now? But then, the ?creme de la cr?me? of ?babe magnet? after-shaves was spotted ? ?Jovan Sex Appeal?!

The box proudly proclaimed the following:

?Now you don?t have to be born with it. This provocative stimulating blend of rare spices and herbs was created my man for the sole purpose of attracting woman!!!?

I immediately parted with my well-earned 430 Nepalese Rupees (?3.25), stepped outside and slapped it on. ?Watch out ladies, here we come!?

Maybe it was something to do with the garlic curry and garlic bread I had for lunch, but I was amazed that not one girl approached me. Tonight we are off to the Gurkha Palace restaurant and bar, so I will give it a second chance! (To my darling girlfriend Lisa ? I?m only joking and am actually saving this bottle of blended spices just for you, when you reach Base Camp with Trek ?K? ? enjoy!)

On a more sensible note, Mike Flexmore asked on the Blog if helicopters can reach the summit of Everest. Well, a helicopter has successfully reached the ?roof of the world?, a French-built Aerospatiale Squirrel. This was especially stripped down for the world-record attempt, but for normal day to day operations, the highest point a helicopter will usually fly to in the Everest region is the mountain village of Pheriche ? where we are setting up our third laboratory on the trek. Of the 20 tons of equipment that we are flying in from the UK, approximately 10 tons needs to reach Base Camp. The most efficient way for us to do this is fly it up to Pheriche in a Russian built Mikoyen Mil Mi-8. This is a large military-style helicopter that can carry 2.1 tons to Pheriche, but with the ?thicker? air lower down, can carry 3.2 tons to Namche.

Hi there chaps! Sounds like your having fun waiting for our beloved barrels. Looking forward to getting there and meeting up with you lot. Not sure when I'll see you. Im guessing you'll have left Kathmandu by Friday?
