Insomnia!

Plume off summit, R McMorrow

4 messages :: read>

This week saw Dan, Paula and myself at a Faithless concert in Brixton. We were dancing like lunatics to the track Insomnia. This is because the last time Dan and I danced to this track, he was on the South Col, and I was at Base Camp, and I was playing the music to him and some of our other team members via two-way radio. The South Col is such a harsh environment, and some of the team were stuck there for 5 days completing the science and summitting. The base camp team were using everything in their power to keep morale up.

Apart from that, the general sense of anticipation continues to increase. With just over a week to go until the first Horizon documentary, I have been booking Mike in for interviews on radio and television. Look out for him on BBC Breakfast on Wednesday.

Today, Mike and Denny are at an open day at the Royal College of Physicians. This is being held by the Intensive Care Society, to promote the work they do developing intensive care. Their charitable trust - The Intensive Care Foundation - was a significant sponsor of Caudwell Xtreme Everest. They supported the laboratory at Pheriche. Mike asked me to pull out some of the testing equipment to take along. So members of the public will be seeing some of our trekkers favourite items. The step used for sea level testing will take pride of place, and many trekkers will have particularly fond memories of that piece of kit!

I saw the Horizon programme 28th September; your research on high altutude hypoxia was of interest to me.
I'm studying The Body MA, and one of the papers is on Near-Death experience and hypoxia, and would like to know if there was any research done on brain and mind states during and following the climb. In an near-deth situation recent research suggests mind operates separate from a defunct brain - was there any evidence of this nearing the summit of Everest?

Hi Kay,
Watched the Horizon programme last night. Was fantastic. We were very proud to vitness on film the sincere warm and humanitarian face of Vijay.
We knew he was brave, a committed team person and alwys helpful.
The dangers and sheer committment of the expedotion team shown throgh.

hi Kay
Great to see everyone on Friday for Jeremy's anaesthetic SPR day.
I have sent a photo of the famous South Col Rave. Surely this must be the worlds highest party?
Thanks to Mac for delivering my barrels on Monday, although they should have come with a health warning. The smell of my high altitude sleeping bag after 3 months in a plastic drum was something else!
Looking forward to Horizon
best wishes
chris
