Testing Trek M

Trek M arriving at Base Camp

28 messages :: read>

This is the last day of testing of trek teams for our Everest Base Camp staff. Trek M are working very hard on our behalf, in beautiful sunshine, which it makes it very warm in the laboratory tent.

The last of the Sherpas have come off the mountain, which is sort of a relief. Unfortunately, they have to go back up to Camp One for the following three days to carry down all the equipment still on the mountain. We will not be able to breathe a complete sigh of relief until Wednesday evening.

I have very mixed feelings at the moment. Everything appears to be coming to an end, and yet I will not be home in England for another month. We have so much work yet to do to wrap the project up. It will be so sad to see the team split up as the lab staff set off for a much deserved trip to Island Peak, and the Sherpas go back to their families for a much deserved break.

I have lived at base camp, not even leaving for one day since April 4th, and it will be strange to leave.

Well done. A champion effort. I can't imagine the cold. Such a contrast to drought riddled SE Qld.It looks as if you had a great team. I hope you continue to have fun and a safe return.

Wow, what a lovely picture. And Tandi and you
look very much alive and very much in love.
Congratulations to both of you - you made it and
thats fabulous. Hope you had a fine time with the whole team, climbers, sherpas, doctors. Were you ever tempted to try it to the top............... Coming down is different and could turn into a experience where you have time to look around you much more than on the way up. Enjoy and savour every moment of it . LOVE Hugo and Lynn together with the crowd in Nyon.

Kay, thank you for posting news of Trek M. I'm pleased and relieved everyone is well.

To Lizzie Burley: I'm looking forward to hearing all your stories when you return. Recently watched a BBC4 programme - Everest: Farther Than the Eye Can See, and now I?m really inspired by what you've achieved.

Hi Kay
Please pass on my congratulations to Nicole and Nuala and the rest of Trek M for getting to EBC.
Can't believe that's the last of the trekkers - it doesn't seem like 5 minutes since we were arriving!
Sitting here still trying to select my photos for printing from over 1000, 4 weeks later! Hopefully, all the photos and memories you have will help to alleviate the sense of loss at not being there. We certainly can't wait to see you safe back home - Daniel's very proud of his Auntie Kay and his school have been following events closely.
Take care, and congratulations to all the Summiteers.
Much love, Mary xx

Miss Kay,
You have done a great job with your comments. I can imagine the mixed feelings as the end of your time at EBC draws closer. Hopefully the project has created a number of new relationships that will survive and thrive once back in civilization. Continued best wishes and happiness/relief on the return of the climbers.

Well done to the whole team and a special one to my brother, Chris Imray. So proud! Relieved to hear all is well. You all got a mention in a full page article in The Times of Friday 25th regarding the medical aid given to the climber.
Love Frances

Whey hey!!! thanks Kay - they made it (at least I think it is them - the picture is sooo small!!) Well done to Nicole and Tandi and all the rest of Trek M. Now just make sure you come down safely too! Looking forward to that next email Nicole!

Kay you have clearly done a fantastic job up there - well done to you and to all the team. I can only imagine what it is like to live at base camp for so long and then to have to leave it - such magnificent beauty around you, and yet every day structured with work to do. In a way perhaps the trek down will help you gradually adjust. All of you are so priveleged to have been able to fulfil this dream - what an opportunity.
I remain sooo envious!

I hope to see you on your return Kay - I am proud of you my friend.

Lots of love to Nicole and Tandi - and take it easy as you come down! no sprained ankles please
Jill (Nicole's mum - in case folks haven't worked it out!)

PS: England is very wet today, not missing anything!
