Time to go?.!

Jamling photo

86 messages :: read>

Yesterday we said farewell to most of the IMAX team. We still have Michael Brown here (a very experienced mountain film-maker and a previous Everest summiteer) who will be filming us for IMAX on our summit bid. One of the stars of the original IMAX Everest film was Jamling Norgay, son of the famous Tenzing Norgay (first summiteer of Everest along with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953). For the last few weeks we have had the privilege of getting to know Jamling and through his presence here somehow feeling a connection with the first Everest summit. Before he left yesterday Jamling kindly agreed to a photograph with Roger and I (attached to this blog).

In my last blog I mentioned ?Patience??well the moment is finally here. Yesterday Mike Grocott (our expedition leader) called us all together to set out the plans for our remaining science on the mountain and our summit bid. Having consulted the long range weather forecast, plans have been put in place and we will soon move high to camp 2 and above. The whole team are in good shape and feel ready. It?s time to go!

Nigel-who-did-it, delighted to hear you're all back down at Base Camp now, that's great! Hope you all have a brilliant time together as you talk about everything and recover and eat nice things. Enjoy every minute 'cos you'll hardly be there again. Well, I'm just saying.......... love to you and to Roger (I would send love to the others too but they don't know me and they might think that it was a bit strange?!?) from Sheena & the Bradleys (hey! that sounds like a pop group)

Hi Nige

Its been a good week for the BARF(Belfast Association of Rock Climbers and Fell Runners) club. Your topping out on Everest inspired Paddy Mallon to win the Loughshannagh Horse Shoe race and Pauline O Hara was first lady in 16th position overall from 124 starters. Not so good for the rest of us as we ran around aimlessly in the fog, but fortunatly the afore mentioned had their wits about themselves to capture a BARF double.

Once again congratulations on your success

Safe down

Jim and Helen.

Hi Nigel,
It's just fantastic to know that you've achieved your goal. Congratulations. We are all praying for your safe return and to hear all your stories. You are going to be tired telling everyone back home about your adventure, but be patient with us all. You've achieved a dream that many leave in their thoughts but maybe we could live out our thoughts listening to your experience.
The girls always have a special prayer for you every night for your safe return.
God bless

Nigel,.
It looks like a cunning plot to put you at the top of Everest to keep you from winning this years Dads race at the school sports has succeeded. A bitter blow!. There will be a new champion tomorrow but a hollow victory!.
However I'm sure your great mountaineering achievement will make up for it!!!!.
Brilliant , congratulations .Can't wait to hear the new and the stunning science that will come with it
Regardsfrom all the McNicholls

Six Doctors and ten Sherpas on top of Everest --- that must be Peak Practice then!!!
Seriously, well done yourself and all the team, especially those further down the chain out of range of the glory spotlight, but none the less essential for success.
It must be some sort of record getting so many members of the same expedition all onto the top at the same time. Good luck to those in the second wave who are no doubt climbing at this very moment if the weather window is holding.
Safe down all.

Please pass to Tom Parkin, trek K (no posting on site please)

Hi Cherie

We hope you are OK, and still enjoying yourself. We miss you loads, and can't wait now for you to come home. Everyone is following the site, watching for any news of trek K, and they keep asking if you are still out there.

Ruth, Dad, Mum, Russ, Jane and Robert all send their love and say Hi. The fluffies are honing their skills with the catflap, and can get through it now, without breaking it off its hinges. The lure of outside is wearing off for Midge, and he definitely doesnt like the rain.

Hope the weather there is good - enjoy if it is, as its windy, grey and miserable here. Typical great british summer. Lizzie is enjoying WE, drives the quad, mends fences, concretes floors. Regular Miss Fixit now.

Take care on the return, and love to you as always.
