Snacks!

Snacks

5 messages :: read>

So today the first half of our snacks arrived, and is being inventoried at this moment by our dedicated snack evaluation team. Inventorying the snacks seems to be an unnecessary torture for the calorie-starved team, but it is important to know what has yet to arrive to ensure that it all does. Even with that wait, this is terrific news ? we?ve been snack-free for a significant period now and this will really breathe a new lease of life into the food here (especially for grazers like me!)

To clarify, we aren?t just a load of gluttons ordering in vast quantities of external food because we won?t eat what our cooks make for us ? the cooked food here is excellent if occasionally a bit spam-centric. The logic behind this huge influx of salami, chocolate etc. is that the weight loss issue at altitude means that the more calories we can cram the better. Having lost just over 10% of my weight in just under a month, and with others on a similar track, I?m sure you can understand just why today is a positive step forward. Jules recently wrote about the food study science so if you want to know more about altitude and weight loss, I recommend you read up on it there.

Today also happens to be the day that Trek H arrive, for testing to start tomorrow. This is key because, as George put it, we are now ?over the hump? and the members of Trek H are the first trekkers we?ve had past the half-way mark.

I?ve been going around the last day or so taking photos about base camp life, the everyday things that we do to keep entertained, daily practicalities and so forth; impressions just to let you all know the simple things in life here. There will be a folder put up on the website with both mine and others? photos for your delectation. I hope it gives you all a better impression of what life is like here.

Hey Cal,

How's it going?? Hope everything is ok and better than when we last spoke.
Feeling a bit down today, Andrew (had terminal cancer) died on Saturday so we're all a bit sad to see such a strong man pass. It's my first day at home (came back from Plymouth yesterday) and it's not really all that interesting. Wish you were here. I could do with beating someone at squash!! Or just a hug.

Anyway, I'm going to go do the ironing now while I watch Black Books.

Hurry back mateh.
Love as always,
Em x x x x

Hey Cal!!

Jealous or what! I was going to go up to Tibet to try and get to base camp but ran outta time :( But always next time!

The views look breath taking!!! - I think I'll be following your footsteps within the next few years.

Stay safe

Speak soon

Hey Cal

Miss you. Just got hurt again and I could really really do with a Callan hug. Something special about them. I hope you're feeling better than when I last spoke to you. Really want to phone you to talk properly but bit worried about how big the bill would be!

Come back soon and safe.

Love.

Heya,

Glad to hear the snacks have arrived (although this whole blog has made me crave chocolate :( and I ate my last brownie today (I made a batch on Monday...oh God, it's tuesday, I'm the world's most greedy person...but they were goooood :)...).

Claire said you were feeling kinda under the weather so I hope you're feeling more well now. I hope you're having a fantastic time -- life certainly looks interesting up there and I hope you're taking many many photos (did you ever have that drag night? Given the cold it certainly sounds an...interesting concept...)

I sent a letter yesterday...I've got a funny feeling it's not actually going to reach you, which is a shame, this time round it was almost interesting...By the way, I want the car, and it should NOT go to ben -- if you leave it to him I will only hunt him down and kill him :P

I'll leave now -- my eyes hurt because guess who's lost her glasses AGAIN? So have fun, best wishes, and see you soon!

Jenny

im glad to hear that your team has now been humped and that all is well. i again want to remind you shouting "AVALANCHE" for a joke could have ironic consequences. and as after that start you will never speak to me again, i want to say it was a privalage giving your comrades plenty to talk about!!!
