Trek J arrived in Base camp yesterday in high spirits. They have not lost any trekkers along the way due to illness, and are very keen to complete all their testing. They have been very lucky with the weather since arriving at base camp. It is a beautiful sunny day today, and the ice fall in particular looks spectacular.
We said goodbye to the climbers as they left for camp one today. They made excellent time, and all had reached camp one by lunchtime. Obviously, the rest down in Dingboche has done them the power of good, which will give them strength and confidence as they move up the mountain.
The base camp staff are fighting to get the testing completed today. Some of the machinery is proving to be extremely temperamental, and causing delays. Thankfully, Trek J are being very patient with us. I think the sunny weather is helping. They may not be so patient if it starts snowing.
Finally, someone appears to have stolen our dinner gong. Our cook team have looked everywhere for it, and it has gone. Any ideas, get in touch! Post a comment on this article... Open message form

Thanks for keeping us updated on the climbers progress. We heard there are 255 summiteers and 5 deaths so far this year. We are all hoping the weather remains settled for the team and the science goes well for them.

I see that you're back at EBC again - can't keep away eh?!
Now - why am I not surprised to see in Kay's report that Trek K arrived earlier in the day than any other trek? No doubt you had everyone on the trail at 0400 every morning warning of 'crowds on the route' again! They all have my sympathy!
I look forward to seeing you in the Lakes in just over a week's time. It's a pretty depressing thought that, with your Himalayan acclimatisation, not only will you be wanting to hit the routes at 0400 but you'll be even further ahead of me on the hill than normal!
