Trek E arrive at Base Camp

Trek E arrviving at base camp
23 messages :: read>

It is Saturday, and the lab staff are busy testing Trek E, who arrived at Everest Base Camp yesterday lunchtime. Trek E are very happy to have achieved their goal, despite the hard work required to do so. Trek E experienced quite a difficult night?s sleep last night, as the wind was up, and it has got a lot colder for a spell. Despite this they all were ready for me when I came to collect them for testing today from their mess tent.

These winds have been causing problems for our fantastic Sherpa team, who have been trying to finish placing the fixed ropes from Camp three to Camp four. Mingma, our climbing Sirdar, and his team have been forced off the Lhotse face by high winds both yesterday and today. The Lama calendar suggests that this bout of high winds will continue on for a few days. However, it predicts favourable weather from May 4th to May 24th, according to our base camp Sirdar, Pema.

On a more mundane note, many of the base camp team were delighted to receive post from home today. It is amazing how much difference a letter can make to your week. Mark Edsell was blown away to receive photos of his wife and daughters. I got a bar of chocolate! Thank you to everyone who sends us messages and letters. It is lovely to know that we are being thought of back home. I even sent a letter to Jeremy Windsor up the mountain at Camp two, so he should get that tomorrow, (again thanks to the amazing support of our Sherpa team).

Hi Tom,
Great to see your photo with the team there at EBC!
I showed Kate and Tom your team photo this evening and told them all about your trip. They asked me to tell you that they've got some more track for their train set that they want you to build when you're back! If there's a BRIO train set at EBC, see that you get some practice in!
Looking forward to seeing you and Julie in the Lakes in June for some rock routes and hearing about your time in Nepal.
Hopefully be in touch when you get back to Kathmandu.
Have a wonderful time.

For Jules Harvey:
Hope you are not missing Loughborough too much!!
Off to church choir as usual tomorrow by bicycle which is about as precarious a journey as I wish to take.
Good for you guys...it sounds as if you are all doing a terrific and life-changing job over there.
Thinking of you all.

Hope you're recovering from your tonsilitis. We think about you all every day. All the Mitchell extended family send their love. Its 25 degrees Celsius just now with the April average temperature the highest by 3 degrees since records began 350 years ago. Enjoy the ice while there's still some left!!!

Kay, I was thinking of your getting used to the cold at night vs the newly arrived trekkers experience. Also sitting on the Lhotse Face with high winds would be terrifying Thank you for the continued updates and we will hope the Lama calendar is accurate. Continued best wishes.
