Ceroc and a few tinnies!

Mani stone beside the trail

Yet another night of apnoea ? sleeplessness as a result of altitude. Perhaps I should have followed doctor?s orders after all and downed my bottle of penicillin-facaded Scotch whisky.

Today is a day of rest but Tina, Brian and I decided to have a short trek of three hours to Thamo which turned out to be nearer six hours due to Tina?s photographic lessons. Now she knows where the on / off button is and how to frame a shot so that the head appears in the photo!

It was another beautiful walk on a beautiful day with once again the most breathtaking views ever. We arrived back around six-ish covered in dust but able to luxuriate in a 250 rupee (?1.75) cold shower. But that was fine because the temperature outside was at least a few degrees above freezing.

Our dining room was the warmest ever due to three trek groups all converging at the same time making the down jackets redundant for the first time.

One of the groups (C) was on a return from Everest Base Camp and all were truly euphoric about the experiences but at the same time glad to be returning to lower altitudes where their bodies could regain more of their human traits. They were really looking forward to their celebration later today.

The atmosphere was soon to hot up even more as tonight was the Grande Gala Clube Namch? ? the only disco in town and created by Monty and the Medics (was this a 90s pop group or was that Mike and the Mechanics) out of an old basement. The highlight of the evening was the sensual Ceroc dancing performed by Operations Manager Lee and Exercixe Physiologist Helen.

They soon had everybody joining in as they gave instruction to a group whose enthusiasm was far superior to their co-ordination but everybody had a great time and Lee and Helen were the absolute stars of the show. I should also mention that Monty performed less well as a DJ than as a female impersonator. At the time of writing this, the party was in full flow and was looking set to continue way past 9.00 PM!!

After three tinnies (Doctor?s orders) and hoping for a significant improvement in my sleep pattern this evening, in readiness for the continuation of the trek to Deboche tomorrow, which will see us climbing to 3,700m (12,369ft).

It?s lovely to receive messages from back home to this most spectacular wilderness so please keep them coming and keep the encouragement going ? I think we might need it when Brian and I attempt the Lobuje East summit at the end of our trek.

Great to hear that things are still going well for you pompous. By the time you get this message you will probably be up at Deboche at 12369 ft with the luxury of a ?1.75 shower far behind you, a little extravagant for you treasure, no?! As for partying past 9pm, you dirty stop out! Anyway hope that you continue to enjoy your "walk in the park"! Missing you pops... look forward to seeing you back here soon...Love you lots, Jenbo.x

I'm not related to anyone on your trip, but am an adventurer in the health care profession (Emergency Department pediatric nurse practitioner who enjoys high altitude trekking and climbing) and am so enjoying the website, updates, photos and blogs. As for the Lobuche East Summit, I climbed it (the "false summit") last November and it wasn't bad at all. We had fixed lines, no wind, and full on sunshine. Couldn't beat it.....enjoy and climb safe! And what's a "tinnie"?

Dearest Daddy, hope you're finally getting some sleep. I would have thought a combination of all the walking, the torturous tests, the tinnies and the almost unbearable excitement of Club Namche would have knocked you right out. Perhaps you need to try a spot of pogoing before getting into your sleeping bag at night, just to complete the effect. Rue's got some exciting news which i'm desperate to tell you but i better let him. Miss you. Wish i could talk to you, but glad you're having such a great time. Though it may be a checkered experience it will certainly be one of the most unforgettable. And what a privilege - to see some of the most extraordinary scenery the world has to offer. Special days... Love you, Reba xxx

Darling John, although the hotel Anassa is gorgeous and Jacobi is having a ball with all the kids, it's not the same without you here! Second attempt at this, seems the interenet is somewhat antiquated, with any luck you will get this msg. Sounds like you are having fun, and will have some awesome photographs to show us. Please try and contact me before the dreaded Lobuje East climb! Keep safe, stay warm and come back in one piece. Good luck to the dangerous brothers, lots of love Chloe and Jacobi xxx.

John and the T-whizz crew,
Sounds like you lot are all having a laugh. If Tina's fits of giggles are effected by altitude, I really hope you ve got your video camera at the ready for what happens when she gets over 4000m, a free radicle with nothing to bounce off. Apart from you, Ha !! ;-) hilarious
Enjoy the view, drink buckets of water and get the penecillin down your neck 4 a good nights kip.
Oo this caramel Latte s going down a treat :-)

Hi Honey
Missing you loads. Hope you are OK doing your 'walk in the park' and picnicing. We are all fine at home, no need to worry. Only just over two weeks to go, can't wait. Got my ribbon waiting. Please take care of yourself. See you soon.

Great to here Tina's photographic skills are evolving and she's moving on from her 'headless' period. Seeing peoples facial features in her work will add to the Fotherby ouvre. I assume that other motifs soon to appear will include horizontal horizons, less 'action' blur, and a more traditional landscape aesthetic.
Enjoy.

Hi again John and Brian, it sounds really wonderful where you are. I really wish I had the strength to do what you are doing, the mind is willing but the body is failing fast unfortunately! So take lots of photographs and videos and then I can imagine that I have seen the fantastic scenery. Every one sends their love. The blogs are great - but what is really impressive is that my sister has sent a blog! that has to be a first - oh dont worry John she hasnt worked out how to internet shop....... yet. Look out Ebayers, here comes Katie!! Keep going boys XX
