Triumphant Trek A

Trek A arrived at Everest Base Camp at about midday yesterday, and they were amazing. They had made the decision the night before to keep together so that they would arrive at Base Camp together. Just before midday, we saw this group of blue jacketed people with a flag, and then they started singing! They had made a special song up for their arrival and into camp they walked! Every single member of the trek had made it:
Mary Rawson, Christine Rawson, Susanne Rawson, Ben Palmer-Fry, Judith Taylor, Chris Murray, Andrew Murray, Nick Knight, Lesley Cannings, James Hambly, Marian Mateer, Martin Haywood, Olivia Haywood, Dave Fletcher, Gerry Kennedy, Helen Hoyle, and Cameron Holloway, with their trek leader ? Paul, and Sherpas.

Today, the sun has really come out, and it seems to be a bit warmer, so Trek A have brought good weather with them. Thank you. The Everest Base Camp staff are now busy testing all the day one subjects, and things seem to be on schedule, despite temperamental machinery. The EBC lab staff have been great. We finished the Caudwell Xtreme Team testing late yesterday, so they had to pull out all the stops to reconfigure the lab for trekker testing today. They worked hard into the evening to pull it off. Thanks to George, Gwen, Jildou, Jules, Nikki, Callan, Mark W, Mark E, Liesl and David.

The climbers have started their acclimatisation programme now that testing for the CXE team has finished. They have set off in groups today to climb Kala Patar, and we expect most of them back at around 6pm Nepal time. This is the first day that the EBC group has been split into two groups, and it feels strange not to have more than half the group around. Still, the camp is busy with trek A wandering around, getting a feel for what we have set up here, and also getting tested.

Our Sherpas are busy organising equipment to go up the mountain as usual. Mac and the logisitics team are constantly working to keep the camp shipshape.

Finally, one of my best friends is getting married today. Best wishes to Nicole and T. I feel a long way away from them right now., but look forward to seeing them soon.

Congratulations to trek A especially Martin and Olivia Hayward. Thanks to Martin's presence at base camp I have had a quiet day at the Heart Hosp (ie no Martin saying have you sent for the next patient) and time to blog. We leave with trek G on Sat Wynne A
