Divine scenery!

Dan and Jim off the road to Tengboche

6 messages :: read>

Today was divine. The weather was perfect, and Chris Imray and I ambled up from Pheriche to Lobuje. At one point along the route, we reached an elevation of 4425m, exactly half the height of Everest. We stopped so that I could take a photo of Chris, who is one of our potential summiteers.

The start of the walk required a steep climb which took about 20 minutes, and then we walked along the ridge for about an hour and a half until we reached Dughla for a well earned cup of lemon tea. This walk along the ridge was beautiful, with a variety of peaks gleaming in the sunshine against the blue sky. There was Pumori, Ama Dablam, and Nuptse, for example. Jeremy has just told me that Pumori means Daughter Peak. Mallory named it after hearing about the birth of is daughter in 1921.

After finishing tea at Dughla we had a steep climb up to a memorial site. This site is where climbers who have died on Everest have been honoured. Names include Scott Fischer, who died in 1996. The monuments are surrounded by towering snow covered peaks, and it is a place of great beauty.

After this steep climb, we carried on to Lobuje which involves another meandering walk through another valley. We have been above the tree line for over a day now, and the scenery is rather stark, but no less stunning. We arrived at the Himalayan Chain Resort in Lobuje in time for lunch, and spent the rest of the day relaxing.

Hello Kay

Hope you received my message about the Aquapure Traveller water purifying bottle. Husband David, volunteer trekker departing UK 25th April, will be bringing his with him. The website is great, and all the news greatly appreciated. Happy Easter and all the best for the remainder of the expedition.

Liz Bradbury.

Hi Kay, My name is Rosemary Watson and I am Nigel Hart's sister. Just thought I'd let you know that it is his birthday on Easter Sunday 8th April. So how about someone else take that guitar of his and you can all sing 'Happy Birthday' to him! It is great to be able to keep up to date with you all through the website. God Bless you all.

Dear Kay and Chris

How clever to be so far away from the dangerous Easter eggs and bars of chocolate that are inescapable in the UK! Have a wonderful Easter. I wish you a warm welcome at Everest Base Camp - whether it is -15 degrees C or not!

All the best, Tina x x

Hi Kay! Sounds like you and Chris have had a great day. Tell him from me that I expect to be taken out for tea, lunch, dinner etc when he gets home! Where are all the photos you keep teasing us with written details? The Beeb blog seems to be fixed now thank you. Hopefully they'll start to get some feedback and stop looking like a bunch of Billy No Mates! Keep well, safe and happy xx
