Sea Level Testing

We have started testing our Caudwell Xtreme Everest trekkers at the Laboratory in Archway, London.

When I say testing, what I am really talking about is recording baseline measurements. We are not testing people to see if they are fit enough, or 'put them through their paces'. We are recording how each trekker performs at sea level, so that we can see how that performance changes as they are exposed to lower and lower oxygen levels.

This sea level testing could not go ahead without the commitment from our volunteer laboratory staff. They range from doctors, medical students, to scientists and gap year students. We have also received a lot of support from sponsors in the form of kit.

What is really nice is putting a face to the names that I have been dealing with, in some cases for over six months now! The start of the expedition is weeks away and I am really beginning to marvel at what we have achieved and what we are hoping to achieve. Bear with us if we seem a little preoccupied at times. It is just that there are so many facets to this project that they take some formidable co-ordination.
