Monasteries and Mountains

Locals in Lhasa

We all seemed to sleep fairly well, and for some of us our ?sats? have risen from 77% to 84%.

Such is the power of acclimatisation. Today is a day of rest, and we all split up. Many head to the major monastery in the centre of Lhasa. The monastery itself is beautiful, but Chinese guards are there to regulate flow- limiting access for the true worshipers, and ?fast-tracking? foreigners such as us. We all feel very guilty about this. Nonetheless, the kay-butter candles flicker in the dark, and the sound of bells and gongs are enriching.

After some lunch on a rooftop terrace, we all go to the Potala Palace. This is a truly amazing construction, and rich in history and architecture. However, its abandoned state leaves it a hollow shell.

We return to our hotel, before heading out for supper. However, Alex VT is now ill witrh flu? like symptoms and a fever, and Nikki has gone down with D and V. The rest of the team are in good shape, however.
