Well, it would seem that another rest day has come around and it?s time for another EBC blog. We have just finished testing Trek I, and there are only 4 groups left to test!Yesterday I went for my second run in 6 weeks. It gave me great satisfaction running past slow, puffing trekkers who had just made the trip up from Gorak Shep?. You gotta love acclimatization and a haemoglobin of 18.1. Of course, I only ran for ten minutes, down to the crashed helicopter and back, which laid me low for the rest of the day! Today the Saffies went on a mini expedition onto the Khumbu Glacier for a little mountain solitude and, of course, the mandatory ice climbing. I really am becoming quite addicted to this sport!

Time certainly is flying here. Our team is off tomorrow to make their South Col Science / Summit attempt. Once we have finished testing all the subjects plus ourselves, the Base Camp Science team has been granted early leave from EBC to go and climb Island Peak. We plan to leave Base Camp for the last time on 1 June, which means that we have only two weeks left! I?m definitely going to miss this place ? somehow it?s difficult to imagine daily life anywhere else right now. But all good things come to an end, and this adventure will have to finish to make way for new ones. Still, I think we?ll all make a concerted effort to enjoy every last minute of these final two weeks? so, we continue to work, climb, party with the Sherpas, marvel at the constant civil engineering as the glacier changes around us and stand in awe of this place which, for the next two weeks at least, we get to call home.

Many thanks to all who have got in touch via the blog messages ? really great to hear from you all!
Mom & Dad: wonderful to chat the other night (albeit briefly) and glad to hear you finally received my snail mail.
Dyl: brilliant to hear from you! Glad to hear things are moving along in Ulukhatok. We?re even warmer than you are!
Dave: Happy Birthday for yesterday! Hope it was a good one
Rob: I like what you?ve done with your office, too? how is the School of Mountain Leadership going?
Johnny B: glad to hear you?re taking it easy in preparation for Wolkberg. Really sorry I?m going to miss it this year? please tell all the loons I say hi
Kerry & Adam: great to hear from the CT contingent! All the best for the arrival of the little one ? please do send photies!
Tashi: how brilliant to hear from you! I haven?t yet received your letter, but there are still many yak trains & trekkers coming up. Love to B & HT.

Take care all and have a wonderful week?

Cheers
Gwen

G'day Gwen Mo! I got your letter today. Jack the Rapper posted it from California.. i thought you were out there! I have to say that a hand written letter with the first lines as
"Gwen Morgan, Everest South Base Camp, Nepal" is about the coolest way to start a letter. It sounds like your time there is nearly done. I am glad you received the book and music. A picture of the book at base camp would go down well with the other rescue folks here. I am off the Peru in 2 weeks for our lunge at Artesonraju. After all the training here in the Rockies I am looking forward to getting down there. Stay well my friend.

After some rest, you will be running tests on Trek K, which includes my husband (Tony P). I hope that the testing runs smoothly for everyone and that you collect some interesting data.

Dear Gwen

I love the photo of you ice climbing! Well done for making EBC sound so wonderful and for your appreciation of the place. It is one of the toughest places on earth I have ever visited so I really admire you for making the most of it. Thank you to you and the medical team for making the trekkers so welcome and for the serious science you are undertaking! Best wishes from Tina Fotherby

Hello to Gwen and all at EBC involved in this fantastic research undertaking. A big thank you for checking out and looking after my husband Dave Bradbury (Group H) at EBC. He is now home safe and well, with so many wonderful memories and experiences to share. Good Luck with your Island Peak trip. All take care during the remainder of your time on Everest. As a very small time jogger I am in awe at your ability to run at that altitude, keep it up!
Best wishes, Liz Bradbury.

Hi Gwen,

Sounds like you're having a super time there at EBC. Having adjusted back to work life I must say your office sounds a lot better than mine and I find myself longing to be back in the mountains... Hope your last 2 weeks there are as awesome as the preceding ones sound!
