Dr Jeremy Windsor - Breathing Systems Group Leader


Dr Jeremy Windsor
Jeremy is leading the Breathing System research group and is one of the group responsible for obtaining blood gas samples at altitude for the Xtreme Everest 2007 expedition.

He holds a degree in medicine from Sheffield University and is a Specialist Registrar in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care for the North Thames Rotation.

As a member of the Alpine Club, London Mountaineering Club and International Society of Mountain Medicine and British Medical Expeditions (MEDEX) Jeremy has an active interest in the outdoors, in particular, climbing and mountaineering.

Jeremy has worked as an Expedition Doctor in South America, Nepal, East Africa and Greenland. He has also written and presented on a wide range of high altitude medicine topics. His research interest is in the development and testing of supplemental oxygen at altitude, for which he recently won the 2004 Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland's History Prize.

Jeremy is also a member of CASE (Centre for Altitude, Space and Extreme Environment Medicine) at UCL (University College London) and has been involved in teaching and research. This has led to his recent appointment as Honorary Research Assistant at University College London.

In recent mountaineering adventures Jeremy completed ten first ascents in Knud Rasmussenland, East Greenland. Jeremy has also recently returned from climbing the world?s sixth highest mountain Cho Oyu (8,201m) as a member of the Xtreme-Everest Cho Oyu 2005 expedition where he was able to complete a range of high altitude experiments which he will continue on the expedition to Everest in 2007.

Jeremy is passionate about climbing and anything related to climbing. He has a keen interest in writing articles on the subject in addition to his published medical papers.
