Trek J arrived in Base camp yesterday in high spirits

Trek J arrived in Base camp yesterday in high spirits. They have not lost any trekkers along the way due to illness, and are very keen to complete all their testing. They have been very lucky with the weather since arriving at base camp. It is a beautiful sunny day today, and the ice fall in particular looks spectacular.

We said goodbye to the climbers as they left for camp one today. They made excellent time, and all had reached camp one by lunchtime. Obviously, the rest down in Dingboche has done them the power of good, which will give them strength and confidence as they move up the mountain.

The base camp staff are fighting to get the testing completed today. Some of the machinery is proving to be extremely temperamental, and causing delays. Thankfully, Trek J are being very patient with us. I think the sunny weather is helping. They may not be so patient if it starts snowing.

Finally, someone appears to have stolen our dinner gong. Our cook team have looked everywhere for it, and it has gone. Any ideas, get in touch!

Hi Peter
Waiting waiting waiting, for Group L photo of arrival at base camp to be posted on website. Postcard from Katmandu arrived today, Tuesday, pleased to hear you are enjoying the food?! and the drink! Dont worry, we'll be straight up to Norbury Farm for some nice juicy T-bone steaks as soon as you're back. We're off to Dornoch for 5 days at the weekend to see F & P, who both send their love. Hope to talk soon. Love M & D

Nicole, Tandiwe, our two super mountaineers.
You've been gone for one week and are hopefully still going strong. Next climb over 2000 ft very tough, to levels where it counts. Are with you in thoughts every day. LOVE Dad and Lynn. 18.May

Hi Kay,
Thanks for keeping us updated on the climbers progress. We heard there are 255 summiteers and 5 deaths so far this year. We are all hoping the weather remains settled for the team and the science goes well for them.
All the best.
Sara

It was so good to see the photograph of both Trek J and Trek K (husband is in Trek K looking healthy and happy, always good to see).

Good luck with the testing for the trekkers and the summit attempt for the climbers.

Congratulations to Trek K for holding the record! Love to Lisa. ( I hope you are having a fantastic time.) Love also to Andrew (Mac). Well done to 'Logistics' for the showers, deluxe toilets etc as shown on the EBC Gallery. I hope the dinner gong has returned! And I hope too, that you all have lots more party time. The very best of luck to the Climbers. Tina

Hi Kay - thanks for your update on Trek K as part of your piece about the climbing team. Best wishes to all for a safe and successful climb.

Namaste Tom!
I see that you're back at EBC again - can't keep away eh?!
Now - why am I not surprised to see in Kay's report that Trek K arrived earlier in the day than any other trek? No doubt you had everyone on the trail at 0400 every morning warning of 'crowds on the route' again! They all have my sympathy!
I look forward to seeing you in the Lakes in just over a week's time. It's a pretty depressing thought that, with your Himalayan acclimatisation, not only will you be wanting to hit the routes at 0400 but you'll be even further ahead of me on the hill than normal!
Have a great time and a safe trip home, mate.
Russ

I found your dinner gong :) That's posted on everstnews from the 'Alpine Ascents Everest Expedition': 'We also salute the gallant team member that, under the cover of darkness, stole the dinner ?Gong? from a very noisy nearby British team. Only time will tell if we will be made to pay retribution for this dastardly deed.'
I'm excited to read about the upcoming war...

Just arrived home. Don't have the dinner gong!
You are a great actress! Hope all goes well with the climb, we will be following it closely. Thanks, Barbara, Greg and Shaun

Fantastic going so far guys! Good luck to the climbers - keep yourselves safe and make sure you all get down in one piece! And as for the wise guy climber that nicked the dinner gong in an attempt to make a world record for the high altitude gong striking: innovative thinking....

Hi Kay
Chung Ta Yak has grown so big since we last heard from him, that he's taken to wearing the dinner gong round his neck as a Yak bell?

We send our very best wishes to the climbing team for a successful summit.

Do pass on to the climbing team my very good wishes for their attempt. I hope too that they can get the planned science done on the S. Col and Summit and all get down safely.

Suggestion for whereabouts of Dinner Gong: - Mac has taken it to use as a sledge for going down all the quicker to meet Lisa!

Miss Kay,
sorry to hear of the dinner bell loss. I cannot imagine it will go far. I was thinking of the difficulty you will be facing...focusing on climbing team and on incoming trekking groups. Best of luck on these tasks.
