Leaving the country!

It is Friday, March 16th, and the core team are heading out for Kathmandu tomorrow!

After three years of planning and hard work, it feels quite strange to think that, for me, tomorrow is D Day. I have spent the past two weeks seeing a lot of friends and family, but it has not really sunk in until today that we are going. I think what made it sink in was saying goodbye to Hugh Montgomery, and realising that although he has been heavily involved since the beginning, he will not be joining us on the mountain. He will be with us in spirit though!

Tonight, I face a huge packing exercise because I have been trying to organise so many office related things I have not had time to organise my personal things. I am not the only one. I am fairly confident there will be more than a few members of the team burning the midnight oil, packing feverishly!

I am really looking forward to reaching the Summit Hotel, and seeing Kit again. He is such a nice man, and an excellent host and agent for the expedition. I know he will make us feel hugely welcome as we arrive hot and dusty from Kthmandu airport. His staff will settle us into our rooms with quiet efficiency, and in no time we will be into the swing of testing the core team of 24.

To all of those joining us on the mountain over the next weeks, I wish you a safe trip. And to those of you left behind, thank you for all of your support in helping us to get to where we are today.

Keep in touch!

Excellent news that all is now underway! Do any other trekkers wish to share email addresses? Just meeting a few during the Archway testing was fun - this is a great basis for many possibilities - not least lift sharing to Capel Curig, business (maybe?) and socialising of course - we will all have our own stories on the back of so much goodwill built up for this special expedition. David Cobb (J03) at treecottage@btinternet.com gives consent to share his contact details!

Dear Caudwell Xtreme Everest team: Just remember, you've already climbed a huge mountain of work to get to this point, so Everest should be fairly straightforward in comparison!

The science and sacrifices you are undertaking are awesome. We'll be thinking of you every day over the course of the next three months and more.

Best wishes to you all. Tina Fotherby x x
