Helen Luery - Exercise Testing Lead

Helen studied Sports Science at the University of Brighton, graduating with a First Class Honours Degree. She has subsequently received certification in Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing at University of California Los Angeles. Helen works at University College London as Head of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing and conducts a variety of research into the uses of Exercise in the prevention and treatment of disease, the role of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPX) in the evaluation of surgical patients and the interaction between genetics and exercise training.

Helen co-ordinates the research activities of the exercise laboratory and is currently assisting in the development of a clinical CPX service at Whittington Hospital NHS Trust. She is also undertaking an Mphil/PhD which aims to investigate the use of field tests for the assessment of anaerobic Threshold in high risk surgical patients. Helen is also Lead for exercise testing at the Centre of Altitude Space and Extreme Environment Medicine.
