Portex Professor and Head of the Portex Anaesthesia, Intensive Therapy and Respiratory Unit, Institute of Child Health, UCL. Also Leader of The Cardiorespiratory Sciences Theme, Institute of Child Health; and Director of the Centre for Anaesthesia, Royal Free and University College London School of Medicine, UCL.

Specialist research interest in: determinants of post-operative morbidity and mortality, peri-operative resuscitation and resuscitation fluids, haemostasis and haemostatic derangements in critically ill patients, endotoxin and endotoxin immunity.

Qualified RFU Rugby Coach. Currently coaching Ealing Trailfinders U11s forwards who are the 2004 Middlesex County Champions.
